Registering travel outside of Canada

Global Affairs Canada has a free online service that allows Canadian government officials to contact Canadian travellers in case of an emergency abroad, such as a natural disaster or civil unrest, or inform them about a family emergency at home.

Registering with the service, known as the Registration of Canadians Abroad, will also ensure your clients receive important changes or updates to the Travel Advice and Advisories for the destination for which they register.

Travellers can register online.

Registration is free, easy and confidential. The personal information provided on the registration form is used in accordance with the provisions of Canada’s Privacy Act.

Did you know? In 2020, when Canadians abroad were urged to come home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were able to inform those registered with this service about available assisted-departure flights. By mid-July, the Government of Canada had assisted over 62,000 Canadians return from 109 countries.

Don’t forget to mention this registration service to your clients. It could make a big difference to them in an emergency outside Canada.
